Mets will not sign Stankiewicz

With an hour left until the Draft signing deadline, there are still three first-round picks unsigned: Kevin Gausman, Mark Appel and Lucas Giolito. My instinct says Gausman and Giolito sign. I’m still not so sure on Appel. We’ll see shortly.

There were some other early-round picks still up in the air. The A’s are still working to sign Arkansas sophomore Nolan Sanburn, their second round pick. And their third-rounder, Kyle Twomey is still unsigned.

I have learned, though, that the one remaining Mets draftee in the top 10 rounds, Texas high school right-hander Teddy Stankiewicz, will not be joining the Mets organization. He could be headed to Arkansas to join a staff topped by Ryne Stanek, one of the Class of 2013 top prospects.

(Editor’s addition: According to Kendall Rogers (@KendallRogersPG), Stankiewicz is heading to Seminole JC, not Arkansas.)
